Candle Care for Flame Keepers
1. Prepare your safe place.
Choose a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials. Let your candle sit quietly and serenely, a gentle beacon of warmth and light.
With pillar candles, a completely flat surface ensures that the flame can dance freely and evenly.
2. Let the wax learn its path.
Let your candle burn for at least two hours the first time it's burned. This first ritual teaches the wax to remember its path.
3. Don't rush the ritual.
Don't burn the candle continuously for more than 4 hours. As the flame dances, the candle and its holder will become warm. After extinguishing, let everything cool down before moving it, so the ritual can settle gently.
Pillar candles, without a holder, require extra care. Don't let their flame dance for more than three hours at a time, so the candle wall remains firm and the warm wax stays safely in place.
4. Tend to the flame.
Straighten the wick and, if necessary, trim it back to about 5 mm before each burn. Also trim away any mushroom formation at the wick tip. A well-maintained wick ensures a steady, stable flame with a clean, soft glow.
5. Guard the glow.
Keep your candle away from drafts, paws, little hands, and anything curious. This glow is for admiring, not touching.
6. Never leave the flame alone.
Always stay nearby as long as your candle is burning. When it's time to extinguish the flame, do so with care and attention.
7. Allow the flame to gently settle.
Use a snuffer or gentle breath. Breathing too vigorously can gently agitate the warm wax.
8. When the glow is gone.
Glass and metal retain heat even after the flame has gone out. Let everything cool completely before touching or moving it.
With pillar candles, wait until the wax has completely hardened before moving the candle to maintain its shape.
